8 Ways to Easily Cut 500 Calories from Your Daily Intake

There are some immediate and simple steps you can take starting today to reduce your daily caloric intake and get on track to losing weight.

No, I am not talking about starting some extreme weight loss diet or fasting as we know that these drastic steps are not sustainable for life.

You may lose a lot of weight in a quick time but many studies have shown that you will just put the weight back on.

The key to successful weight loss is to implement achievable and sustainable lifestyle changes in a controlled and steady time frame. Here are some easy ways to reduce your daily caloric intake by 500 calories.

1. Cut Out the Snacks

Do you eat a snack just out of habit even if you aren’t hungry? Is your snack a bar or drink high in sugar?

If you can cut out this snack then you can easily drop several hundred calories from your daily intake. By reducing the portion size you can still cut 100 calories.
Caloric Change: 100 + calories

2. Watch Your Portion Size for Meat Consumption

Can you reduce the size of your steak, chicken or meat serving? Just by reducing the portion size you can reduce the calories. One great way to do this is to use a smaller plate then you will be less inline to fill it up.

Caloric Change: 100 + calories if you can reduce the size of your meat by half.

3. Watch Your Portion Size for Pasta Consumption

Eating a lot of high carbohydrate meals such as pasta or white rice can pack on the pounds! Try reducing the portion size of your pasta and add some good healthy vegetables to your plate instead.
Caloric Change: 100 + calories

4. Buy a Smaller Coffee and Cut Out the Sugar!

If you are not ready to eliminate your morning coffee try buying a small coffee instead of a large coffee and gradually reducing the amount of sugar you have in your coffee.

Eventually, you can eliminate sugar from your coffee altogether and from personal experience I can tell you that you will enjoy your coffee much more!
Caloric Change: If you can reduce the size of your coffee you can drop up to 50 calories and when you eliminate sugar then you will reduce it by another 20calories.

5. Swap the White Bread for Grain 

There are certain types of bread (sourdough bread) that can have twice as many calories as a loaf of grain bread. Many bakery’s load their bread with a lot of sugar thus packing on the calories.

Try and source a healthy loaf of bread from a bakery or health food shop.
Caloric Change: By sourcing a healthy loaf of bread (and cutting thinner slices) you will be able to reduce your caloric intake by 80 – 100 calories per day.

6. Drop or Reduce the Sauces and Spreads

Just by dropping butter, margarine, tomato sauce or many popular sandwiches spreads such as mayonnaise you can drop up to 100 calories.
Caloric Change: 20 – 100 calories

7. Carefully Select Your Wine or Beer

Most people have a favorite wine or beer they regularly choose when having a drink. If you can find a ‘light beer’ you like then you can drop the calories. Also, use a smaller glass and slow down your drinking and this will help you to reduce the amount you consume.
Caloric Change: 100 + calories
